Fresh west wind for today

Today sunday morning. 18 celsius. Fresh wind. 15- 20 knots. Again the boat loves those conditions. West wind in the river means reaching up and down. It also means shifty conditions. I managed to get 2 good rides with speed just over 10 knots. It it always fun and compensate for not being able to sail the asso.

There was flowers in the flat island and the wind was carrying the good odors. There is sometimes like that when mother earth is so generous and so beautiful

I love sailing.

Sportboats Sailing: Sunday 5 to 8 knots

Going out sailing at the end of the afternoon, because numerous motorboats during the sunny week-end days.
Wind from the shore of the narrow river, so close reaching sailing angles.
I managed to climb the channel between the islands and went down with the hope of a decent angle for the assy.
Did 2 runs, but it was still to tight to let the boat go.
Besides the space needed for dousing before hitting the shore.
I find boring the sailing days without the assy.

15 puffing over 20 knots

It was a cold day today. 18C but windy.
The boat loves those conditions and a little more. I went down the river upwind and went for the windiest part in the front of Varennes.
Nice planning rides coming back with the right angle to keep the boat flat and doing 2 digits white sails in the puffs. The boat felt light and lively.
But showers were menacing. One passed over Montreal 10 miles away. Another one was in formation possibly going over me. I came back to the club and endured a little rain when rolling the sails.

I think it will be better to put this category in the front page instead of news. I intend to post some of my brilliant plan to modify my unique sportboats.
Or to build a new one.
Or to buy a skiff.
In short, to show how crazy I am with my addiction to sailing.

From abeam

Sailing today with the wind from abeam true. Too edgy to fly the assy. 8 knots puffing to 12, maybe less. Had 8 knots top speed with the boat flat.
Unstable condition with showers poping at any time.
Decided to try the little passage between 2 islands. Better angle to fly the assy. The hoist was a mess. The clew was wrapping tight around himself. Suddenly during the time I cleaned everything, there was showers mushrooms all around. Went back to the club and escaped everything.
I was alone sailing my little sportboats and no motorboats around.

From the east

8 knots puffing to over 10 this morning. Went down with the spi, wind from abeam. Turn up upwind after 2 miles at the end of the island doing average 6 knots. My blue Etchells friend try to follow me white sail. It did not work good for him.
Did a second spi run. This time I had my day. 2 digits on the gps.
I am happy.
Went back to the club upwind. Met the blue Etchells again when he just tacked leebow. He stalled his boat. I passed him. Then he started pointing like hell with no speed and gained to windward. I tacked in front of him. Tacked again on an higher lane and then went to the club.
That is it.
Ready for another day.
